1. Maruyama Park

Maruyama Park transforms into a mesmerizing pink wonderland with nearly 160 cherry trees, including the Sargent’s cherry and Yoshino cherry varieties, adorning its landscape. Picnickers flock to the park, securing spots under the blossoming trees and enjoying the tradition of cooking jingisukan, a local grilled lamb dish, with rented portable stoves. Maruyama Park showcases the unique charm of simultaneous cherry blossoms and plum flower blooms, a rare phenomenon in Japan owing to Hokkaido’s special climate.

2. Moerenuma Park

Moerenuma Park offers visitors a unique experience with its innovative design elements. The expansive park is home to a dense grove of cherry trees. While cherry blossoms in Honshu typically reach their peak from late March to early April, in Hokkaido—including Moerenuma Park—they can be enjoyed from late April to early May.

During this period, the average temperature hovers around a pleasant 12°C, providing the perfect climate for cherry blossom viewing. The park’s “Sakura Forest” features around 1,800 cherry trees, including Ezo-yamazakura, Kasumi-zakura, and Chishima-zakura, making it an ideal flower viewing spot for families. Late April, in particular, is the prime season to enjoy the blossoms in full bloom.

3. Nakajima Park

The cherry blossoms bloom in succession from late April to the end of May. Whether you’re rowing a boat on the pond or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll, Nakajima Park promises a serene and unforgettable experience amidst nature’s beauty.

4. Asahiyama Memorial Park

Asahiyama Memorial Park offers sweeping vistas of Sapporo City, highlighted by a grand central fountain and expansive staircase. The park boasts a rich natural environment ideal for family outings. During the cherry blossom season from early to mid-May, Asahiyama Park becomes a hotspot, adorned with approximately 3,500 cherry trees. The park’s lookout offers enchanting views day and night, with illuminated fountains and city lights adding to its allure after sunset.
