UNWIND HOTEL & BAR OTARU, nestled in the heart of the Shiribeshi region, is quickly becoming a celebrated destination within Hokkaido’s burgeoning wine scene.  Recognizing the area’s potential, we launched the “Taste of Hokkaido: UNWIND Otaru Wine & Cuisine” event in July 2021. This event aims to showcase the exquisite local wines from Otaru, Yoichi, and Niki, inviting more people to discover and appreciate the unique flavors of this prominent wine-producing region.

Taste of Hokkaido Wine & Cuisine OSA WINERY: Breezy Wine Party

Thanks to its annual popularity, this year marks the third “Terrace Wine Event” with OSA WINERY, a summer highlight at UNWIND HOTEL & BAR Otaru. This year’s theme is “Breezy Wine Party,” where you can enjoy four types of beautifully crafted OSA WINERY wines paired with creative dishes from our hotel.

Adding a special touch, the OSA WINERY couple will join us to share insights about their wines. The event will take place on our open-air terrace, allowing you to soak in the refreshing summer breeze of Otaru instead of dining indoors.

The chefs at our restaurant “The Ball” have crafted a creative cuisine box themed around “early summer.” The menu highlights local ingredients such as Otaru seafood, rare Ezo deer from Yoichi, and Hokkaido vegetables, all prepared with the chefs’ delicate techniques to showcase Hokkaido’s culinary delights. Enjoy the vibrant colors, enticing aromas, and rich flavors of OSA WINERY wines under the refreshing summer sky.

To enhance the enjoyment of Hokkaido’s short summer, our staff will be dressed in yukata, adding a festive touch to the event. There will be fun game events with surprise gifts from the hotel and OSA WINERY, as well as an OSA BAR where you can chat with the OSA couple about wine. Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or simply curious about local wines, we invite you to join us and enjoy this extraordinary setting.

About OSA WINERY

Owners: Naoki and Mako Osa

After working in wine trading companies and manufacturers, they decided to pursue their ideal winemaking at the age of 35, traveling across Japan to find the perfect location. Captivated by the land and food culture of Hokkaido, they moved to Otaru, where grapes had been historically cultivated. In 2015, they founded OSA WINERY, cultivating eight grape varieties in Otaru and Yoichi, producing 10,000 bottles of wine annually. Their theme is “wine of happiness,” focusing on compatibility with Japanese meals and Hokkaido ingredients, primarily producing white wines. OSA WINERY Official Site

About the Terrace Space at UNWIND HOTEL & BAR OTARU

The terrace space on the 4th floor of UNWIND HOTEL & BAR Otaru, a boutique hotel reborn from a 100-year-old historic building, opened last year. The 150 square meter terrace features comfortable and stylish sofas, tables, and chairs, suitable for various occasions. The space is designed to create new encounters and experiences through events aligned with local festivities. Enjoy the pleasant summer climate of Otaru and the scenic views of the port town.

About UNWIND HOTEL & BAR OTARU

Built in 1931 as Hokkaido’s first hotel exclusively for foreigners, the “Former Etchūya Hotel” has a rich history, having served as a military officers’ club and later as a facility requisitioned by the US Army post-WWII. Designated as a historic building by Otaru City and as part of the “Modernization Industrial Heritage Group 33” by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, it has been revitalized after several years into a boutique hotel expressing a unique modern sensibility while preserving its historical and architectural charm. The hotel’s mission is to create an organic place for interaction between locals and travelers, offering a unique experience different from typical classic hotels.
