TSUNOGAI Solo Exhibition “HELLO NEW WORLD vol. 5” Makes Okinawa Debut, Free Admission March 8-17
Original collaboration merchandise will be on sale, and the artist will be in attendance on March 15, 16, and 17.
We are pleased to announce that a solo exhibition by manga artist and illustrator TSUNOGAI will be held at ESTINATE HOTEL NAHA from March 8th (Friday) to March 17th (Sunday). During the exhibition period, visitors can enjoy the display and sale of TSUNOGAI’s artworks, as well as original merchandise. Additionally, exclusive collaboration merchandise, created specifically for ESTINATE HOTEL NAHA, will be available for purchase. During the artist’s appearance on March 15th, 16th, and 17th, customers who purchase original merchandise will receive a complimentary signature from TSUNOGAI.
“HELLO NEW WORD vol.5” TSUNOGAI Solo Exhibition
The concept behind ESTINATE HOTEL Naha is “Travel is more interesting when imperfect.” This idea reflects our belief that while meticulously planned trips have their merits, there’s something special about embracing spontaneity and leaving room for unexpected encounters and discoveries along the way.
Based on this concept, since July 2021, the hotel has been fostering opportunities for new encounters and discoveries through art under the theme “HELLO NEW WORLD,” catering to both locals and travelers visiting Okinawa. This time, in “HELLO NEW WORLD vol.5,” we are delighted to feature TSUNOGAI, a versatile freelance manga artist and illustrator, known for his work as an official illustrator for Tezuka Productions.
Tsunogai-san is renowned both domestically and internationally for his artwork, typically themed around the tropical paradise of Guam and the essence of summer. However, for the first time in this project, “HELLO NEW WORLD vol.5,” he will be holding a solo exhibition in Okinawa.
At the exhibition, visitors can expect to see approximately seven popular pieces featuring the iconic blue seas, skies, palm trees, and lively sun-kissed girls reminiscent of Guam. These artworks will be available for display and purchase. Additionally, a range of original merchandise such as stickers, eco-bags, postcards and keychains adorned with artwork from these popular pieces will also be on sale. This event offers a unique opportunity to experience the essence of Guam in the tropical setting of Okinawa, providing a fresh perspective on art.

“Despite mostly drawing about Guam, I’ve actually never been to any other tropical islands besides there. I’m really excited to visit Okinawa for the first time along with my artworks. I hope viewers can feel the similarities and differences between Guam and Okinawa through the colors of the sea, the sand on the beaches, the tilt of the palm trees, and other elements depicted in my pieces.”
Exclusive Collaboration T-shirts Available at ESTINATE HOTEL Naha
For this event, we’ve commissioned original artwork specifically for ESTINATE HOTEL NAHA. The theme of the artwork revolves around the concept of “Ryukyu-Mexican” and popular menu items like “Tacos” from the hotel’s restaurant, ESTINATE LOUNGE NAHA. It features a colorful palette and adorable expressions of girls, capturing the essence of Okinawa. These artworks are transformed into T-shirts for our collaboration merchandise, available in two colors: black and light sage. During the three-day exclusive appearance by Tsunogai-san on March 15th, 16th, and 17th, customers purchasing original merchandise, including the collaboration T-shirts, will receive a complimentary signature.

“When creating the overall design, I wanted to ensure it was catchy and something that travelers would instinctively want to use during their trips. I incorporated Mexican motifs with a Ryukyu Hanagasa-wearing girl as the main focus, along with hibiscus flowers, palm trees, and a blue sky to evoke the tropical atmosphere of Okinawa. The girl’s facial pattern incorporates hibiscus flowers in a Mexican-style design. I chose vibrant colors and accented them with yellow, inspired by the frequent pops of color I’ve seen on ESTINATE HOTEL NAHA’s posts.”

Originally from Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, currently residing in Tokyo. Creating artwork inspired by tropical and summer themes, particularly focused on Guam, while commuting between the two locations. Engaged in various artistic endeavors including CD jacket designs, merchandise, and event art. Alongside freelance work, also contributes as one of the official illustrators for Tezuka Productions.
