The University of Tokyo Hongo Campus

Just a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute bike ride from HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU, the University of Tokyo Hongo Campus offers a breathtaking ginkgo-lined path stretching from the main gate to Yasuda Auditorium. The stunning golden hues of the trees create a mesmerizing sight, attracting many visitors.

This view of the ginkgo trees is from the main gate of the University of Tokyo. The ginkgo tree is officially part of the “University of Tokyo Emblem,” symbolizing the institution and holding a special place in various contexts.

Visitors, including the general public, are welcome to explore the campus. Before visiting, check the guidelines on the official website. Groups of 15 or more are required to register in advance, while no prior registration is needed for individuals or small groups. On the day of your visit, inform the guards at the gates of your group name and number before entering.

Ueno Onshi Park

Ueno Onshi Park is a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute bike ride from HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU. It’s a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, offering enjoyment year-round. Let’s explore its highlights.

This rest area near Ueno Zoo is spacious enough to feel like a small park. With benches scattered around, visitors can relax and take in the vibrant autumn leaves.

Though the park is usually bustling with people, this area remains relatively quiet, making it a hidden gem. On warmer days, the atmosphere is particularly pleasant. Some visitors were even enjoying their lunch under the golden ginkgo trees.

This is the tree-lined path leading from Ueno Onshi Park to the Tokyo National Museum. Alongside the ginkgo trees, various others display their unique autumn hues. A simple walk here immerses you in the serene atmosphere of fall and winter.

The area around the grand fountain is surrounded by vibrant flowers, creating a scene reminiscent of a foreign landscape. Grabbing a warm drink from a nearby coffee shop and enjoying a chat here could be a delightful way to spend your time. In addition to fully experiencing Ueno Park, the area is home to various museums and galleries, making it worth exploring during your visit.

Former Iwasaki Residence Gardens

KIU IWASAKI-TEI GARDEN is just a 5-minute bike ride from HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU, tucked quietly down an alley off the Shinobazu Street (entrance fee: 400 yen). At the top of a gentle slope from the entrance, there stood a magnificent ginkgo tree.

The two-story wooden Western-style house with a basement was designed by the British architect Josiah Conder, who is famous for designing the Rokumeikan. It is a prime example of Western wooden architecture representing modern Japanese homes. Visitors can enjoy the majestic appearance that reflects over 130 years of history, as well as the brilliant contrast of the ginkgo tree’s golden yellow leaves.

You can also tour the interior of the house and appreciate its meticulous craftsmanship. It’s a rare place where you can experience something extraordinary, far from the ordinary. It might be a fun stop during a stroll.
