Recap of the countdown event “ISLAND-CHAMPURU 2024-2025 COUNTDOWN” on December 31st!
ISLAND CHAMPURU, hosted by ESTINATE HOTEL NAHA, combines music, art, and food to present a fresh take on Okinawan culture. The event was a lively celebration of creativity, featuring singing, dancing, and an enjoyable mix of art, drinks, and delicious food that delighted all attendees.
An original unit formed just for the event, “Taki Takuy + Unjour,” consisting of members from both Japan and Peru, performed on stage.
Their setlist featured a lively mix of Latin music and Okinawan folk songs, offering a blend of familiar and rhythmic tunes.
To close the event, the members, guests, and Chef Sueyoshi from ESTINATE LOUNGE Naha gathered for a group photo, creating a special moment. It was an occasion that reflected ESTINATE HOTEL Naha’s unique atmosphere, fostering close communication between the artists and the audience.
In the middle of the live performance, we all took part in a piñata-breaking activity.
A piñata, often used for celebrations in places like Mexico, is traditionally shaped like a star and symbolizes driving away evil by breaking it open.
On the day of the event, both adults and children joined in, taking turns to hit the piñata. When it finally broke open, everyone excitedly gathered the candy that spilled out, adding to the festive atmosphere!
We also hosted a Finger Painting Workshop, offering a chance to engage with art.
With guidance from finger painter Yukako, participants enjoyed the unique experience of finger painting, using their own fingers dipped in paint to create artwork. It was a special activity available only on that day.
The highlight of the day was the live painting performance, synchronized with live music.
As Taki Takuy + Unjour played their music, Yukako used her fingers to paint on the canvas, moving as if she were dancing to the rhythm. Toward the end, the tempo picked up as she added the finishing touches, and the energy in the room rose along with the upbeat music, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
And here is the finished artwork!
This piece captures the essence of ISLAND-CHAMPURU, expressing the fusion of art, music, and food as a new Okinawan experience. It depicts a sea turtle swimming freely with musical notes shaped like ocean waves, carrying the flowers of the heart and food, as the music spreads into the audience’s space.
The completed artwork is currently on display at ESTINATE LOUNGE NAHA on the first floor.
The exclusive food and drink menu for the event was also a big hit.
Following the Okinawan tradition of eating pork to celebrate the New Year, we served BBQ skewers loaded with pork, as well as custom tacos, where guests could choose their own sauces, ingredients, and toppings, and the chef would assemble them. Both were very popular, with lines forming in front of the food booths throughout the event.
ISLAND-CHAMPURU will continue to be held at ESTINATE HOTEL NAHA, offering events where music, art, and food come together for unique experiences that can only be enjoyed at that moment and place. Be sure to check out event updates and information.
We look forward to seeing you all again soon!
